5 Steps To Get Clarity On The Year Ahead

Are you clear on where you’re headed? Planning isn’t something that always comes easy to everyone. But without any plans, it can be disheartening when you realise you’ve been working on the wrong goals or wasting time going in the wrong direction. If you want to achieve the goals you set for yourself and your business, you need to get clarity on the year ahead.

In the recent blog post ‘How visualisation can help you grow in 2022’, we looked at how visualising success can help you get clearer on what you want. But seeing what you want is only one part of the equation — you also need to take some practical steps to achieve your goals and intentions.

So if you’re looking for a little help with the practical side of gaining clarity, here are 5 steps that will help.

#1: Get Clear On What You Want

It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? But often, it can be challenging knowing what you want from life and business. So if you want to get clarity, sit quietly somewhere and be open and honest with yourself. What is it that you want to achieve? What achievements will help you feel like you’ve succeeded this year? What desires and intentions do you have for yourself and your business?

If it helps, start by getting clear on what you don’t want — you can then flip those into positive desires. Visualisation can help here too, so check out the linked blog above for more on this.

#2: Write Down Your Intentions

Always write down your desired goals and intentions. Not only does this help you to remember them, but it also gives you a chance to prioritise them. You can also refer back to your list regularly to really connect in with how it would feel to achieve them — this is something that helps keep you motivated and positive along the way.

#3: Check In To Ensure You’re In True Alignment With Them

When you’ve written down your intentions, check-in to see if each one is really what you want. It’s pretty easy to get sucked into writing down goals that you think you should be doing or things that other people like you to achieve.

Park anything that’s not in true alignment with you. If you don’t really want it, or it doesn’t feel right for you, take it off the list.

#4: Break Down The Steps

Next up, break down each goal into individual steps. Some goals can seem a little overwhelming initially, especially if they’re big accomplishments. When you break them down into individual steps, you’re effectively creating a to-do list for each goal. You’ll then find it easier to schedule each action into your calendar. It also helps you stay motivated, as you’ve got smaller milestones to reach along the way.

#5: Create A Plan Of Action

Finally, get an action plan in place to reach the goals. This plan of action includes blocking out time to complete each step on your to-do list and ensuring you have the right people or resources in place to help.

Just bear in mind that things can change. You may decide to change or even scrap a goal, timescales may need changing, and plans may need amending at short notice, especially due to the pandemic. It pays to have a contingency plan in place to help cover all eventualities.

It’s then down to you to commit and take the action needed to achieve your goals.

Getting clarity over your goals isn’t something that always comes easy.
